2nd Prize for Best Oral Communication at the XV International Congress of Rare Diseases

The researchers Alicia Novella Estellés and Águeda Blázquez Bernal, from the Translational Genomics laboratory led by Prof. Rubén Artero, attended the XV International Congress on Rare Diseases held in Murcia on November 3 and 4. This congress, organized by the D’Genes Association and the UCAM, provided a multidisciplinary vision to face the challenges faced by patients with minority diseases in all areas: research, healthcare, diagnosis, treatment, involvement of institutions and associationism. This year’s motto has been ‘Equity and rights for people with rare diseases’. The event has been held in a blended way, being broadcast via streaming to sixteen countries and has had more than 400 attendees. The work presented by Águeda Blázquez Bernal entitled “Pilot phenotypic characterization of the first murine model of LGMDD2” was selected to be presented as an oral communication. The work collected the approach of the need to generate a mouse model of the disease, the validation of its design and the results of the first characterized mice. The next objective is to carry out the complete characterization of the model, studying mice of different sex and age, and in the future to be able to test the effect of the candidate drugs on the mice. The exhibition of this work obtained the recognition of 2nd Prize for Best Oral Communication.
