Conquistando Escalones present at the VI Solidarity Awards of Cadena 100 Castellón
The president of the Conquistando Escalones Association, Abrahán Guirao, attended the VI Cadena 100 Castellón Solidarity Awards, where the altruistic efforts of individuals and groups in the province were recognised. Among them, José Manuel Esteban, president of Rotary Club Vila-real, received an award, recognised for his solidarity challenge in favour of our Association: completing the 1,300 kilometres separating Vila-real from Paris by bicycle. With this initiative, more than €3,000 was raised for the medical research we carry out at Conquistando Escalones.
In his acceptance speech, José Manuel Esteban highlighted the importance of perseverance and believing in oneself when facing a challenge. He also kept in mind the figure of Abrahán Guirao, praising his fighting attitude to “face that which ‘is not possible'”. Esteban has assured that he considers the award as “the end of an academic exercise in which I have put myself as a teacher to Abraham, and I apply it to a personal challenge, from which I take away a lesson from all this.” After finishing his speech, the president of Conquistando Escalones, has been invited to go up on stage by José Manuel Esteban, who wanted to give him a gift as a souvenir of his arrival in Paris. Guirao has taken advantage of this moment, thanking José Manuel “for the titanic effort he made to go to Paris for our cause and the help it means for us.” He has also placed special emphasis on the fact that these types of donations are made, as something exceptional since the rest of the year the Association dedicates a great effort to the organization of events to raise money for research into Limb-girdle Muscular Dystrophy 1F/D2 and HIV. The speech ended with a call to the audience to collaborate, informing them that “next year we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary and we hope, at last, to carry out clinical trials on humans of drugs that already stop our disease in the laboratory, and that is €100,000.”
