Talk about “The tournament of his life” at the Les Alqueries school

The 6th grade students of the Pintor Sorolla school in Les Alqueries (Castelló) have chatted today with the president of the Association, Abrahán Guirao, after they have read and done work on “The tournament of his life” in his Valencian version. An interesting meeting where young people have shown great interest and curiosity both about the disease and the work carried out by the Association to raise funds for medical research seeking treatment and a cure for Limb-girdle Muscular Dystrophy 1F/D2 and HIV.

A meeting, lasting around an hour, which has been very gratifying, in which ideas have been exchanged and in which there has even been applause. In this way, the students have learned first-hand about issues such as what it means for a child to discover that he has a rare disease; what is day-to-day like with a disease with Limb-girdle Muscular Dystrophy 1F/D2; why Conquistando Escalones was born or the importance of science and research, among other questions.

It should be remembered that «El torneo de su vida» is a children’s and youth book that talks about disability and inclusivity without heroics or paternalism while raising funds to pay for research seeking treatment and a cure for the rare disease suffered by members of Conquering Steps. In this sense, last summer the City Council of Les Alqueries acquired 50 copies of “El torneig de la seua vida” to distribute them among the 6th and 5th grade students of the Pintor Sorolla school. In this sense, the meeting with the 5th grade students was a few weeks ago, at the beginning of this month. A pleasure to have carried our message to these young people who have helped us in the conquest of steps!
