Vila-real’s fan clubs “fight” for medical research

The Conquistando Escalones Association continues to support original initiatives that serve to raise funds for medical research that will lead to a treatment or cure for Limb-girdle Muscular Dystrophy 1F/D2, but which also provide society with an extra bit of entertainment and fun. Thus, on this occasion, the entity is seeking to join forces with the fan clubs of Vila-real to decide which is the most supportive and committed to the cause promoted by Conquistando Escalones in a campaign open to any festero group, whether official or not, and which requires practically no work for the members. As promoters of the campaign, the Association will create a link on a donation portal for each of the participating fan clubs so that they can, in a very simple way, make their contributions and share the link among their friends to raise the largest amount of funds for research. However, for those who are less fond of this type of platform, a piggy bank will also be given to the group that requests it so that donations can be made physically in their respective premises and, from the Conquistando Escalones team, they will periodically collect them to deposit them in the account of the crowdfunding portal.

Each donation can be seen immediately on the website as well as a ranking with the participants, so the intention is to establish a “healthy competition” between the groups, also taking advantage of the celebration of the patron saint festivities in honour of Sant Pasqual, from 10 to 19 May, since the campaign will be active between 2 May and 8 June. Any group from Vila-real interested in joining the campaign can send a WhatsApp to the telephone number 605 263 064 to find out more details about this new initiative from Conquistando Escalones. In this sense, the president of the entity, Abrahán Guirao, points out that “with the aim that no group that wants to collaborate is left out, there will be no problem in a fan club joining the campaign even though it is already underway. The issue is to get the largest amount of funds for medical research so all help is more than welcome.”

Closing the campaign

To close this solidarity action, Conquistando Escalones has planned an event in which you can enjoy different wrestling combats, the sport-spectacle also known as catch or wrestling. Professional wrestlers, representing the fan clubs that have raised the most funds, will get into the ring in a day full of surprises and fun that will be held on June 8 at the Campió Llorens pavilion. Admission will be free and in the coming weeks more details will be given regarding this colorful event. The top representative of Conquistando Escalones also invites companies and businesses to join as sponsors of this action to cover the cost of this closing day and so that “the contribution made by the clubs can be entirely allocated to research”.

Wrestling in Castellón

Wrestling (or catch) enjoyed great popularity in Castellón during the 60s and 70s of the last century. The events in the bullrings of the capital of La Plana were positioned among the most important in Spain, with fighters of international stature. And few people know that Hércules Cortés, born in La Plana Baixa (there is some controversy about the exact location since there are those who claim that he was born in Burriana and others in Les Alqueries – at that time still belonging to the municipality of Vila-real), was a fighter who triumphed in the United States, held world champion titles and even appeared in several films in Spain and Italy.
