The “Battle for Science” kicks off in Vila-real with the supporters’ clubs and Conquistando Escalones

One of the most epic activities ever remembered in Vila-real has begun: the “Battle for Science”. This is the latest madness that we have launched from Conquistando Escalones with the aim of discovering which supporters’ club in the city is the most supportive and committed to medical research into Limb-girdle Muscular Dystrophy 1F/D2 (LGMDD2) in order to give it the recognition it deserves. Thus, the campaign promoted by the Association consists of a fundraiser open to anyone, whether or not they are a member of the supporters’ club, which will have a peculiar culmination: an event in which you can enjoy different wrestling matches, the sport-spectacle also known as wrestling. Professional wrestlers, representing the clubs that have raised the most funds, will step into the ring in a day full of surprises and fun that will be held on June 8 at the Campió Llorens pavilion with free entry.

As promoters of the campaign, from Conquistando Escalones we have created a link for each of the participating clubs in a donation portal so that they can, in a very simple way, make their contributions and share the link among their friends to raise the largest amount of funds for research. However, for those who are less fond of this type of platform, we have also prepared some piggy banks for the entities that have requested it so that donations can be made physically in their respective premises. We have also edited an explanatory video, which we have shared through our social networks and dissemination channels, in which we inform people in a simple and direct way about the operation of this initiative.

At the moment, there are nine Vi clubs la-real (La Merla, Picú, El Bajocó, Els Morrofins, El Desori, Borratxo l’últim, La Penya Rekords, Sarau and Desbarat) who have decided to join, although there are more interested parties, in this initiative that seeks to advance towards a treatment or definitive cure for LGMDD2. The president of Conquistando Escalones, Abrahán Guirao, reminds that financial contributions can be made until June 8th, so any fan club, whether official or not, can join this initiative that does not require any more commitment from the members than to publicize the donation link. In this sense, Guirao insists that “the issue is to get the largest amount of funds for medical research, so any help is more than welcome, whenever it may be.”

The top representative of Conquistando Escalones also invites companies and businesses to join as sponsors of this action to cover the cost of this closing day and so that “the contribution made by the fan clubs can be entirely allocated to research.”

“Healthy competition”

Each donation can be immediately reflected in the “Solidarity campaigns” section of our Conquistando Escalones website, so the intention is to establish a “healthy competition” between the groups, also taking advantage of the celebration of the patron saint festivities in honour of Sant Pasqual in Vila-real, from 10 to 19 May, as the campaign will be active until 8 June.
