Ikaria and Izena concert in aid of Conquistando Escalones at the El Desori club
The El Desori club in Vila-real is organising a double charity performance on 31 August, the first Saturday of the festivities in honour of the Mare de Déu de Gràcia de Vila-real. Thus, from 6:30 pm, at 57 Ecce Homo Street, we will be able to enjoy live music by the bands Ikaria and Izena and attendees will be able to collaborate by contributing the amount they consider in a piggy bank available there or by making an online contribution by scanning a QR code. In short, a reverse box office that will be used for research seeking treatment and cure for Limb-girdle Muscular Dystrophy type 1F/D2 and HIV.
Ikaria explains that it has been 12 years since they have performed. “We played quite a bit between 2007 and 2010 but, for personal and work reasons of the members, the last gig was in 2012. Then we made attempts to come back but children started to arrive to the group,” recalls José Pascual Serrano, one of the members of the group. “Years ago we started to tempt Santi – another of the members of Ikaria – to do a farewell gig and one day, eating at the Peña Morrofins, I got him to commit to do it and I recorded it on video, that was in September 2023. I sent the video by WhatsApp to the rest of the band, the song caught on and what started out as a farewell gig, anniversary and for the children to see us play together, has ended up causing new things and desire to emerge, so the last one? Who knows,” adds Serrano. Once Ikaria’s return took shape, the musician says, they thought that this moment “should be used for something and Jorge (Marco) suggested that if we were going to do something, it had to be to collaborate with Conquistando Escalones. And so it will be.” “It is always appreciated when friends and acquaintances think of our cause. And in this case, that a group that is playing again after many years wants to give a charitable aspect to its return to the stage and thinks of us, makes us very happy,” said Abrahán Guirao, president of the Association.
For his part, Marco comments that the possibility of including a charitable part arose in the rehearsal room and remembers that, finally, they decided to put a piggy bank so that people could donate. “We hope that those who come to the concerts will collaborate and that, more or less, we can help the cause of Conquistando Escalones,” says the member of El Desori, who assures that “the people of the club thought it was a great proposal and are delighted. Hopefully we can do something similar every festival.” This is not the first time that El Desori has collaborated with Conquistando Escalones. In fact, it was one of the clubs that took part in the Battle for Science campaign that brought wrestling back to Vila-real after almost five decades.
