Thanks for everything Águeda

The now Dr. Águeda Blázquez Bernal, joined the University of Valencia team as a pre-doctoral student almost from the beginning of the formation of the Medical Alliance that seeks to find drugs for the cure of our Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy 1F/D2 (LGMDD2). She has worked on the front lines for the characterization of animal and cell models in order to test drugs, which are already working in the laboratory today and whose next step is clinical trials in humans.

From the Conquistando Escalones Association we are enormously grateful for all her work, in addition to her affection, closeness and involvement on a human level, Águeda having also helped in many of our fundraising campaigns. This past Friday, July 14, she defended her doctoral thesis (based on all the work and progress on our disease) before the evaluating panel, which, in addition to giving her the highest grade, was full of praise for her work and presentation. So first of all, we want to congratulate you.

On the other hand, this culmination of her career served as a farewell, since Dr. Blázquez Bernal has decided to undertake other challenges. From Conquistando Escalones, we have named her an honorary partner, as a way of eternal gratitude. Because convinced that the cure will come and when she does, her name will be written in capital letters in said achievement.

Thank you for everything Águeda!

And although it is a sad moment, her work, in addition to its fruits, leaves a great legacy. The pre-doctoral student Alicia Novella Estellés has already been working closely with her and the rest of the team for a long time, so there will be no pause in the research process, in addition to the fact that a post-doctoral fellow will soon join the laboratory. An exciting challenge that continues in good hands to which we also want to thank all her work, starting with Prof. Rubén Artero.

We hope to be able to tell you about research news in the coming months and we wish Águeda the best of luck on her new path.
